The Trap Bar HD

When released in 2017, the Kabuki Trap Bar HD was the first bar of its kind to feature an open design with an elegant built-in bar jack to allow for easy loading and unloading of plates. The bar’s construction from the design phase was for a professional-caliber tool that can withstand the frequency and loading by elite-level sports athletes and strength athletes like strongmen and powerlifters.

Called “The Most Versatile Hex Bar on the Market” by independent journalists at GarageGymReviews - the Trap Bar HD’s durability can be evidenced by some words from an adventurous customer “You can literally hit it with a nissan rogue and no problems”.

An open design like ours enables lifters and athletes to perform a wide variety of movements beyond the traditional neutral grip deadlift - from row variations, to presses out of a rack, to ab-wheel rollouts and other imaginative uses. Today, the Trap Bar HD is a weightroom-staple for some of the most prestigious teams and facilities in the world.

The Trap Bar HD

BUILT-IN BAR JACK

The age-old struggle of loading and unloading plates from your trusty trap bar is over. We are proud to introduce a simple, effortless solution - the built-in bar jack. Our design features 2x inch-thick "legs" with tread to provide grip and stability when the bar is positioned in a vertical orientation for easy loading/unloading. We designed The Trap Bar HD to allow for an effortless transition from horizontal to vertical position, requiring minimal effort and taking advantage of human kind's earliest discovery - the lever.

VARIABLE HANDLE WIDTH

The Trap Bar HD features an industry-first variable handle system that allows for a 23", 25", or 27" intra-handle width using swappable handle brackets. The standard bar includes 25" brackets and customers can use the checkboxes above to add a wider (27" width) or narrower (23" width) handle brackets.

OPEN DESIGN FOR VERSATILITY

In an effort to make The Trap Bar HD as versatile of a barbell as possible, we opted to open up one end of the bar while still ensuring it retains a fully-balanced design. This open design allows for much more variation beyond your standard deadlift, including loaded carries, split squats, RDLs, and lunges.

BALANCED DESIGN

Traditional trap or hex bars that feature low handles aligned with the center of the weight plates are unbalanced much in the same way that a playground teeter-totter is. The bar always feels like it wants to dive forwards or backwards, forcing the lifter to self-balance using their wrists. Our simple solution on The Trap Bar was to introduce a minor 1/2" vertical offset for the low handles, placing them slightly higher than the centerline of the bar. This results in the same effect, but to a lesser extent, as the high-handles - the bar will have a tendency to return to center rather than dive forward or backwards. Think of a teeter-totter - it's an inherently unbalanced mechanism, just like a regular trap bar with low handles. Now, think of a swing - with the center of rotation much higher than the center of mass - it will always try to return to center.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Trap Bar HD is a design engineered open barbell design featuring a number of innovations designed to make for a better, and more effective lifting experience. Unlike a traditional trap/hex bar which is difficult to load and unload, the Trap Bar HD features a built-in bar jack - simply stand it up on its feet and easily load/unload plates. Additionally, our bar is the only one on the market with adjustable handle width to accommodate the smallest to the biggest of lifters. Swappable grips round out the unique feature set to make for an incomparable market-leading specialty bar.

The open design of this barbell allows for a diverse set of exercise applications, including:

  1. Lunge variations
  2. Split squats
  3. Rows
  4. Curls
  5. Ab wheel rollouts
  6. Neutral-grip overhead press

The standard 25” brackets are generally suitable for most lifters between 150-300lbs. For smaller athletes including women or children, the 23” narrow brackets will allow for a more comfortable, vertical arm position. Especially big lifters with broad shoulders can choose the 27” wide brackets to make sure they have enough room and optimal positioning.

The Trap Bar HD comes with two pairs of 29mm stainless steel grips on both the low and high positions. These feature our proprietary and world-renowned Kabuknurl in a stainless steel finish that is durable and corrosion-resistant.

These unique handles are 2” in diameter and can be configured to rotate or as fixed. Setting the grips to rotate creates an additional level of difficulty that makes the Trap Bar deadlift more of a grip exercise, with the limiting factor being your grip strength and not your overall deadlift strength. In fixed position, they are more difficult to grip and lift than the standard 29mm grips due to the additional diameter.

The bar has been load-tested up to 1500 pounds.
