    Introducing the ShouldeRök™ V3

We're proud to introduce the newest upgrade to our world-renowned strength training tool - the ShouldeRök™. With our recent purchase of a very big, very expensive 5-axis mill/lathe machine and the increases in manufacturing capability we have in our new shop space - we've been able to start working on making enhancements to our existing product line!

The ShouldeRök's head "tail" has always been a flared section of the same tube that makes up it's body, which was then knurled. With our new manufacturing capabilities, we've started using a solid block of steel, machined to a perfect radius that can be used as an IASTM tool much in the same way as our Boomstick or PainPill. For more information on the ShouldeRök V3's use in this fashion, watch the video below where Coach Brady Cable gives some demonstrations.

    What is the ShouldeRök™?

This is a tool primarily designed for athletes (amateur to professional), coaches and practitioners. As a precision loadable tool, the ShouldeRök™ when used correctly will increase strength, mobility, and continuously reinforce our need for core stabilization. The ShouldeRök™ challenges us as athletes, aids in reaching new PRs and most importantly, helps to keep us injury free and lifting like Vikings for years to come. Sound interesting? Keep reading and we'll tell you more...

TheShouldeRok™  was designed to increase shoulder strength, core stability, rotational strength, proper spinal position and shoulder mobility/function.

This tool is partly inspired by Ragnarök the Viking prophecy of destruction and subsequent rebirth of the world. The remaining inspiration comes from world class Powerlifter Chris Duffin.

This product is designed to help:

    1. Retrain your nervous system to ensure a stable, braced, neutral spinal position for maximal and safe performance under a heavy load.
    2. Improve scapular and overall shoulder mobility, especially for athletes with impingement due to years of wear and poor movement.
    3. Increase rotational strength and athleticism in pulsing (speed to contraction and speed to relaxation).
    4. Reinforce correct breathing to further support spinal bracing for ALL heavy lifts and movements that require transfer of power from the ground into an implement (ball, bat, club, etc) - You cannot use the ShouldeRok correctly w/o setting up properly, in this sense it is a tool that reinforces a principle required of all athletes - power transfer through the core.

If you're not sure you have the mobility or strength to wield this fantastic tool than please take some time to work through our 'ShouldeRok Preparation Video

    Included with your purchase:

    • For customers who buy the ShouldeRök™ we provide a very specific instructional video series. The password and link will come shipped with the product.

    History Lesson:

The Macebell or Gada is a classical training tool dating back centuries.  Its original use was in the wrestling for fighting cultures of ancient Persia and India.  My first experience using one was about 8 years ago when I attempted to incorporate it for shoulder development and conditioning. As a competitive powerlifter I quickly abandoned its use finding that combined with my powerlifting training it aggravated my wrist, elbows, and shoulders.

However 2 years ago I decided to make another run at using the macebell again.  I had been making tremendous gains in shoulder health and mobility with my progression into Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) and some associated kettlebell work.  I decided to try the swing again but focus on some refinement in the movement based on the DNS methodologies.  The goal was to simply realize some training efficiency as the swing was a very active warmup.  If I could accomplish my rehab, prehab, and warmup all at the same time I would have more time to focus on my actual training.

With the new approach to the swing my shoulder pain that I had been experiencing daily for the last 8 years disappeared after the first 30 days.  This is pain that had kept me from sleeping, interfered with my training, and I was only able to manage in the short term with mobilizing and re-seating drills.  Gone!  I couldn’t believe the change.  Being surrounded by powerlifters and strongman I found several other test subjects similar to myself and quickly found that the same thing happened. That was when I decided to develop the tool into what we now are marketing to others as the ShouldeRök™

For further details on the value of the ShouldeRök™ and its impact on eliminating issues caused by open chain barbell movements today done with an open scissor you can watch this video of me presenting on the topic to a room full of clinical rehab specialist.

One of key differentiating features is the easy load ability combined with the length of the product. Most products of this type are shorter which allows for the same weight to be used across a broader spectrum.  This approach compromises effectiveness effectiveness of their products but is required for those selling 'fixed bells' or other devices.  The length of the ShouldeRök™ is designed to maximize balance as well as the eccentric opening and the requirements for muscle engagement and stability.  The ShouldeRök™ is simply a superior product for this reason.

A lot of people regard this as a mobility tool and they are really missing the boat as to the true value it provides.  Mobility is an output but it is achieved through developing strength and stability with the proper integration of shoulder to core interactions.  The strength and stability are achieved with the proper cueing patterns and core stabilization while applying dynamic load as the shoulder moves through its entire range of motion.  In addition all the supporting muscles of the shoulder girdle are engaged and develop particularly as you add progressive load.

The ShouldeRök™ and ShouldeRök™ method provide strength development, improve stability and shoulder to core integration, and increase mobility.  These improvements are made all with the use of a fun and highly efficient warmup or cool down to any workout.

Over the next year and a half after realizing these changes in my shoulder health I continued to refine the DNS inspired cues and approach to the swing.  I also put on my engineering hat and decided to improve the product itself.  I lengthened the bell and improved the balance with proper material selection giving it a very unique swing characteristic compared to others on the market.  We had some shot loadable bells in the gym but it was such a pain to change the weight that it was never done.  With micro-loading progression and small weight differences making a big impact between one athlete to the next I felt that changing weights quickly was a critical piece.  I chose to have it plate loadable with Olympic plates.  This allowed for developing a loading method that would ensure the safety of the lifter and those around them.  Having a weight fly off the end of a bell just wasn’t acceptable, or compromising the proper handle size to use 1” plates.  For comfort and control I added knurling and flaring of the handle.  The handle has 14" of knurling so that shorter lifters can choke up on the handle and use it as a shorter device.

The ShouldeRök™ was branded as a separate product than just a macebell due to the unique nature of the specific coaching cues that are provided to customers and significant design refinement of the product.  It is simply the best product of its type on the market and video series with it was developed by one of the best strength athletes and strength coaches in the world today.

It’s time to get strong!  Buy your ShouldeRök™ today!

    Plating Options:

Regular Zinc - This is the regular finish that your Shoulderok will have. Shiny and bright on arrival with a hue that varies from bluish to brownish. As the bar is used this coating will develop dull, gunmetal grey patina. Least expensive and most durable.

Electroless Nickel- This is a premium finish. Nickel Plating is used in engineering applications where high wear, corrosion resistance, and hardness are needed.  Nickel plating is both more cosmetically appealing than stainless steel as well as significantly more corrosion resistant in like products than stainless steel! Nickel plating is more durable than chrome and will retain it's warm, mirror smooth polish for years until worn through.  In our application we believe Nickel plating to be both superior to Stainless steel in Cosmetic Finish, Corrosion Resistance, Surface Hardness, as well as maintaining the desired strength and material characteristics of our bar.  We really believe if you are going to go with plating this is the option to go with.

Black Oxide - Black oxide or blackening is a conversion coating for ferrous materials, stainless steel, copper and copper based alloys, zinc, powdered metals, and silver solder. It is used to add mild corrosion resistance, for appearance and to minimize light reflection. We particularly like the gunmetal black finish it gives to the Shoulderok. It just looks badass in our opinion!

    QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

    Ask a Question
    • Does the Shoulderok ship to New Zealand?

      Yes via UPS

    • Have you ever shipped the ShouldeRok to New Zealand?

      Yes we have via UPS

    • Is there a user height and bar length correlation? I'm 5ft 8in and wondering if I should buy this one or wait for the shorter one.

Although shorter users may have issues with the device, these can be avoided by holding the Shoulderok higher up the shaft (although this will affect the swing dynamics a bit). For your height (5'8") however, there should be no issue at all.

    • How would this work post labrum surgery?

First of all I just want to preface this by saying I am not a doctor and this is not medical advice. That being said, often times when people are having various sholderok issues it's often one of a few things. Either trauma, too much stress/not enough recovery, and or poor movement. Poor movement is something that often leads to added unnecessary stress which in turn becomes harder for the body to repair and will cause a subsequent breakdown over time. This is where the shoulderok can be a useful tool. Using it is not going to repair your torn/damaged tissues, there is already structural damage done. If you're moving in a way that is causing your shoulders to break down extra over time that needs to be stopped/corrected. This is where the usefulness of the shoulderok comes in. It is a tool that will teach you to use your shoulder in conjunction with your core. This is very important because a lot of people are moving their joints off an an unstable base, which the core is suppose to be. Without this proper integration of the core the body, and subsequently the joints, lack stability. When there is a lack of stability, movement breaks down and added stress is placed on the structures. So as I said the shoulderok isn't going to cause your tissues to be repaired, but it can assist in removing the root cause that got you to that point in the first place and hopefully put the body in a scenario that allows it to heal itself more effectively. With all of that said, as I mentioned this is not medical advice nor a promise for the shoulderok to cure your issues. You would want to make sure that doing things like swinging the shoulderok are not going to cause more harm. If you lack the range of motion to get the shoulderok behind your head without compromising position, it is going to hurt not help. If doing things like swinging the shoulderok cause pain, it is likely going to be making it worse not better.

    • Do you ship shoulderok to Russia ?

We do ship the shoulderok to Russia. You will just need to choose a UPS shipping option at checkout as USPS doesn't allow items of that length to be shipped to certain countries, Russia being one of them.

    • Does the ShouldeRok come with any additional weight to start? How heavy is the actual bar? If it doesn't come with weighting options, how does one go about adding resistance to it when they are ready? Thanks :)

The Shoulderok comes by itself (along with the nut) and weighs 8lbs. You can easily add weight using olympic-sized (regular gym size) plates from 2.5lbs up to 10lbs (25 if you are feeling brave). The ability for users to micro-load the Shoulderok is essential to its function and the user's progression in the swing. If 2.5lb jumps are too big, you can purchase smaller weights online (amazon) or use large washers which have the same diameter inner-hole as a plate. Hope this helps!

    • Hi Can you please inform me what the shipping cost for one Shoulderöks to Denmark is? And what would it be for two? Best regards

The price of shipping a shoulderok to anywhere in Europe is generally around $70, and for two it would be closer to $90

    • I am American but live in Dubai and want the ShouldeRoc for my son for Christmas. Is there any supplier here of this item?

      Hey Diana,

Unfortunately we do not currently have any distributors in Dubai for the Shoulderok.

    • I hate to be this guy, but there appears to be some pitting corrosion (along with being scuffed up) on the ShoulderRok I just received. I ordered the Electroless Nickel based upon description of being durable and wanting to keep it somewhat decent condition. I'm not too concerned about my own gear being scuffed up as long as it's functional, but I am planning on using this in my clinic with patients. Obviously corrosion isn't ever a good scenario. What's the best way to approach this? I've taken some pics that I can send.

      Hi there,

Please send an email to info@kabukiwarrior.com and we will get this straightened out!

    • Is there an inherent difference between the zinc, black oxide, and nickel coatings? I am particularly asking about a situation where the ShouldeRok will be in a climate-controlled space. My main point of concern is 'grip' and potential rust.

      Hi there,

All of the coatings are rust resistent.  The strongest finish is the nickel, followed by the zinc, and then the black oxide.  If you are in a particularly wet environment, I would recommend the nickel.  In a climate-controlled space, you can't really go wrong with any of the finishes.

    • Hello there.... Looking to purchase the black powder coated shoulderok....... Any info on how to or wait time??

Unfortunately, due to some plating issues we've had to stop producing and selling the black oxide Shoulderok. There is something in the works that may interest you, stay tuned!

    • What is the shoulderok loadable to? I'm looking to get some heavier maces but may just get this.

This depends on the size of the plates and their thickness. If you use calibrated plates, you can fit much more weight than can possibly be swung (4x 10kg plates can fit easily). We regularly fit up to 50lbs with regular plates, and we've even seen our head coach Chris Duffin swing 45lb plates before!

    • How long is the shoulderok?

The full length is 48" or 4 feet exactly.

    • Is there a carrying case that you recommend for this, such as a storage tube?

We don't recommend a carrying case, because the shoulderok is very strong and doesn't need protection.

    • Will this help an old weightlifter improve shoulder mobility and stability in the catch position of the snatch?

Absolutely! Our tool is actually used by many archers and shooters for that same reason you mentioned - stability in the shoulder, which for them is important as they seek marksmanship and precision in their sport.

    • Do you sell the short version of the shoulder rok?

Yes, the Tactical Shoulderok is a break-down unit that can be used as an Indian Club. See here:
      https://store.kabukistrength.net/products/tactical-shoulderok

    • I live in Portland, can I just pick it up in Clackamas? Or is it being shipped from somewhere else? Also, you mention that there is something "in the works," so is it worth waiting for? Thanks! Stanley

We're more than happy to do local pickups, just shoot us an email with when you want to come by so we can make sure we have one in stock and have one available for you!

    • is the shoulderok available in the UK? If you ship to the UK how much is the postage ? many thanks in advance cheers Spud

We do ship to the UK. Shipping to the UK for the shoulderok is generally around $70. If you being to go through the checkout process it will give you exact costs to ship to your address

    • Am awaiting Broomstick you have sent to the UK. Can you ship the shoulderok to the UK as well?

      We can indeed!

    • What are the advantages-disadvantages in regard to the 3 finish types of the Shoulderok? Dia. of plates used to load? Thank you

The different finishes all have slightly different properties that I'll detail out here:

Zinc - this is the cheapest of the finish options, and will provide excellent corossion resistance, but does dull from a shiny blueish silver color to a gunmetal grey over time (while still being corossion resistant).

Black Oxide - this is our less corossion resistant finish, but still provides plenty of protection assuming the shoulderok isn't being stored in a humid area or coming in contact with water and being left wet.

Nickel - similar to zinc, the nickel finish provides plenty of corossion resistance but is also harder and more durable. The other advantage to the nickel plating is that it holds its "shine" much longer than the zinc does.

The plates used to load the shoulderok are just standard barbell plates (2 inch hole)

    • Dear Sirs, I plan on buying a shoulderok I don't understand about adding weight were do I buy the weight or can I use my own weights and how do you put the weight on. Thanks Tim Rudd

The Shoulderok fits standard olpymic sized plates (2.5/5/10/25/35/45)

    • MY new shoulder roxv3 will have the new welded steel BALL on end of handle right

The Shoulderok will have a machined rounded end

    • I have past neck issues (disc bulge) and tightness in the scalenes/scm muscles as well as a TMJ dysfunction but it's getting better since I started strengthening my neck muscles. Would the ShouldeRök be something I can use or isnt it recommend for tight necks? Thanks Michaela

    • Maybe I missed it but I don't see where I can order additional plates for the shoulderok.

You can contact customer service at info@kabukistrength.com they can help you out with that

    • Do you have any blemished Shoulderok’s available in clear zinc finish

      Hey Stephen,

Please email info@kabukistrength.com and they'll be happy to get you set up with one.

    • Hi kabuki strenght I have gone through a herniated disc operation for 6months ago. Now I wonder if it is safe for me to use the shoulderrök.

I would consult your healthcare provider as recovery times for that sort of operation are highly individual. If you're able to do the movement without pain and compensation then it is likely that you would be fine to start, but again please talk to your healthcare provider first.

    • The nut that tightens the weight down on the shoulder rock will it loosen after a 100 rep set

That is a new question/issue that we have not encountered yet, but you can place a locking collar on top of the nut for added security

    • What is the overall length?

The total length is 48 inches

    • Does it come with weights or is that extra

We sell a 2.5lb plate with our tactical version, if interested contact info@kabukiwarrior.com

    • How much does the bar alone weigh ?

      The Shoulderok unloaded is 9lbs.

    • I plan on buying a boomstick maybe this week but I also intend on getting the shoulderok as well soon. My question is do many women use this? And can it help my wife with post surgery rehab of a rotator cuff surgery? I heard in a video that you have some physical therapists using this now. If so can you give me a name of a therapist so I can have my wifes therapist call if they are resistant for some reason to using this?

    • I should have read your Q &A info. My questions were answered. However, I am concerned in regard to the question about the corrosion on the nickel plated Shoulderok. Is this a problem ? Thank you. Joe

      Hey Joe,

I skimmed through the questions but didn't see anything about the nickel plating having issues, but it's possible that I may have missed it. That is our highest quality and most durable finish that we use and should provide plenty of corrosion resistance for years and years to come, and we warranty that, so if there are issues we will replace it free of charge.
